The University Institutes:
In addition to the Faculties and Departments, RTM-AKTU will establish the following Institute from the start of the University. The Institute will operate under the overall management of the Vice Chancellor of the University and each Institute will be led by Director. It is expected that the institute will be a self-supporting entity and will target poor and under served people. The institute will establish linkages with the national and international organizations to provide support to unrecognized semi-skilled workers, so that they become eligible for in-country and overseas employment. In additions, skill levels will be upgraded to work as small entrepreneurs.
The first Institute will be named as Bangladesh Institute of Inclusive Skill Development (BISD). Key programs of the Institute will include :
- | Post-graduate in Library Science / Computer Science (One year Duration). |
- | Diploma / Certificate courses on e.g. ‘Foreign Language’ (English, Arabic, Japanese, and Chinese), ‘Health Care Giver’, Hotel / Tourism Management, Agriculture / Food Technology, Computer Science (Less than one year duration). |
- | Diploma Courses in ‘Diploma in Inclusive Skills Development (DISD)’ for professionally unrecognized semi-skilled workers / professionals e.g. Refrigeration and Air-conditioning, Construction Engineering, ( Up to 10 months duration). |
- | Short Certificate Courses for unrecognized semi-skilled workers in ‘Certificate in Skills Development (CSD)’ e.g. Automobile, Welding, Carpentry, Driving, Tailoring, Electrification, Plumber (3 to 6 months duration). |
University Center (CRTM):
The University will establish non-degree/diploma offering centers with the approval of the Board of Trustees. These centers will include research and development, community based services (like essential and emergency health care services, diagnostic facilities and referral services for the local communities) and other related support activities. Each Center will be encouraged to work with other partner organizations including the government departments, the development partners, the non-profit NGOs and private sector organizations. The centers will also work closely with the ‘Research, Training and Management (RTM) International’ and the ‘SHIMANTIK’ as these two NGOs are founded by Dr. Ahmed Al Kabir, who is also the founder of RTM-AKTU to provide University students and faculties with hands-on opportunities and to develop joint programs and research.
From the beginning of 2021, the first center of the University will be named as ‘Center of Research, Training and Management (CRTM)’. The primary objective of the CRTM is to create and impart knowledge through academic and applied research, disseminates acquired knowledge through conduction of studies, short-training, dissemination meetings, managing field based projects, and related printing and publications. The center will be headed by a Director. It is expected that the center will be a self-supporting entity under the overall supervision of the Vice-Chancellor. The center will mobilize resources for research activities by participating in different national and international organizations funded bids, which will also provide practical exposure to students of different departments in research and evaluation. The Center will also provide special skill development activities in research and training based on needs for both internal (including faculties and students) and external clients. Illustrative examples of activities are:
- Research and evaluation,
- Proposal development and report writing,
- Organizational management, Capacity Building and quality assurance,
- Rural development and entrepreneurship development.
